Summary Diels-Alder reactions of 2- and 3-vinylindoles with aryne, 1,4-benzo- and 1,4-naphtho-quinone lead to new six-ring annellated carbazoles. Molecular modeling studies predict that the compounds with coplanar framework are able to intercalate with the B-DNA.

We have performed a comparative study of the electronic properties of six different electron-doped metal-phthalocyanine (MPc) compounds (ZnPc, CuPc, NiPc, CoPc, FePc, and MnPc), in which the electron density is controlled by means of potassium intercalation. Despite the complexity of these systems, we find that the nature of the underlying molecular orbitals produces observable effects in the doping dependence of the electrical conductivity of the materials. For all the MPc's in which the added electrons are expected to occupy orbitals centered on the ligands (ZnPc, CuPc, and NiPc), the doping dependence of the conductivity has an essentially identical shape. This shape is different from that observed in MPc materials in which electrons are also added to orbitals centered on the metal atom (CoPc, FePc, and MnPc). The observed relation between the macroscopic electronic properties of the MPc compounds and the properties of the molecular orbitals of the constituent molecules clearly indicates the richness of the alkali-doped metal-phthalocyanines as a model class of compounds for the investigation of the electronic properties of molecular systems.  相似文献

If ξ∈ (0,1) and A=an, n?? is a sequence of real numbers define Sn(ξ,A)∶=Σ{ak∶:k=[nξ]+1 to n}, n??, where [x] is the greatest integer less than or equal to x. In the theory of regularly varying sequences the problem arose to conclude from the convergence of the sequence Sn (ξ,A), n??, for all ξ in an appropriate set K of real numbers, that the sequence an, n??, converges to zero. It was shown that such a conclusion is possible if K={ξ,1?ξ} with ξ∈ (0,1) irrational. Then the following three questions were posed and will be answered in this paper:
  1. does the convergence of Sn (ξ,A), n??, for a single irrational number ξ imply an→0.
  2. does the convergence of Sn(ξ,A), n??, for finitely many rational numbers ξ∈ (0, 1) imply an→0.
  3. does the convergence of Sn (ξ,A), n??, for all rational numbers ξ∈ (0,1) imply an→0?

This paper fills a noticeable gap in the current economic and penology literature by proposing new performance-enhancing policies based on an efficiency analysis of a sample of male prisons in England and Wales over the period 2009/10. In addition, we advance the empirical literature by integrating the managerialism of four strategic functions of prisons, employment and accommodation, capacity utilization, quality of life in prison and the rehabilitation and re-offending of prisoners. We find that by estimating multiple models focussing on these different areas some prisons are more efficient than other establishments. In terms of policy, it is therefore necessary to consider not just an overall performance metric for individual prisons, as currently undertaken annually by the UK Ministry of Justice, but to look into the administration and managerialism of their main functions in both a business and public policy perspective. Indeed, it is further necessary to view prisons together and not as single entities, so as to obtain a best practice frontier for the different operations that management undertakes in English and Welsh prisons.  相似文献

We establish some representations for the smallest and largest zeros of orthogonal polynomials in terms of the parameters in the three-terms recurrence relation. As a corollary we obtain representations for the endpoints of the true interval of orthogonality. As part of the Baltimore PM2.5 Supersite study, intensive three-hourly continuous PM2.5 sampling was conducted for nearly 4 weeks in summer of 2002 and as well in winter of 2002/2003. Close to 120 individual organic compounds have been quantified separately in filter and polyurethane foam (PUF) plug pairs for 17 days for each sampling period. Here, the focus is on (1) describing briefly the new sampling system, (2) discussing filter/PUF plugs breakthrough experiments for semi-volatile compounds, (3) providing insight into phase distribution of semi-volatile organic species, and (4) discussing the impact of air pollution sampling time on human exposure with information on maximum 3- and 24-h averaged ambient concentrations of potentially adverse health effects causing organic pollutants. The newly developed sampling system consisted of five electronically controlled parallel sampling channels that are operated in a sequential mode. Semi-volatile breakthrough experiments were conducted in three separate experiments over 3, 4, and 5 h each using one filter and three PUF plugs. Valuable insight was obtained about the transfer of semi-volatile organic compounds through the sequence of PUF plugs and a cut-off could be defined for complete sampling of semi-volatile compounds on only one filter/PUF plug pair, i.e., the setup finally used during the seasonal PM2.5 sampling campaign. Accordingly, n-nonadecane (C19) with a vapor pressure (vp) of 3.25 × 10−4 Torr is collected with > 95% on the filter/PUF pair. Applied to phenanthrene, the most abundant the PAH sampled, phenanthrene (vp, 6.2 × 10−5 Torr) was collected completely in wintertime and correlates very well with three-hourly PM2.5 ambient concentrations. Valuable data on the fractional partitioning for semi-volatile organics as a function of season is provided here and can be used to differentiate the human uptake of an organic pollutant of interest via gas- and particle-phase exposure. Health effects studies often relay on PM2.5 exposure measurements taken over 24 h or longer. We found that maximum 3-h concentrations are frequently two to five times higher than that found for maximum 24-h concentrations, an important aspect when considering that short-term exposure to higher air pollution levels are more likely to overpower defense mechanisms in the human lung with subsequent adverse effects even at lower pollutant levels.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a framework to construct general stochastic Runge–Kutta Lawson schemes. We prove that the schemes inherit the consistency and convergence properties of the underlying Runge–Kutta scheme, and confirm this in some numerical experiments. We also investigate the stability properties of the methods and show for some examples, that the new schemes have improved stability properties compared to the underlying schemes.
